experience at ms interview iit madras (applied mechanics deptt) 2014 - solid mechanics
hello friends,
I received call letter 15-20 days before the interview date. It was mention to be prepared for the group you have selected (solid mechanics, fluid mechanics or bio mechanics)
I selected the SOLID MECHANICS group:
I reached there as per the mentioned date n time. I saw a number of students waiting for further information (5 to 6 times the no of seats in the MS mechanical)
There was a written test for each group, which were seated in different rooms.
my questions were very basic like:(Theory + obj)
1. Numerical questions on engineering mechanics
2. Questions on failure theories, mohr circle
3. Engg materials and their properties like hardness etc
some easy objective questions
but the time allotted was less, 30 mins and 20 questions.
After 1 hour of the written test they announced the result, and i was selected.
The number has reduced to half (2.5 to 3 times the no of seats in the MS mechanical)
now the INTERVIEW (most imp part for MS)
panel of 8-10 members all in early to end forties. Some easy questions like
1. tell me about yorself
2. why MS?
3. Other institutes and program or course you have applied for
Then the battle started:
It was 60 % mathematics and 40% technical portion.
1. draw graphs of various functions and how do you check its continuity and derivalibility
2. what is pressure and how stress is different from it.
3. matrix questions and stress tensor
4. some logical questions to check the basic knowledge of the subject
CAMPUS: the IITM campus is awesome you will an educational hub in the jungle with a lot of animals hovering near the buildings of the department. The scene was mesmerizing
RESULT: I was selected. BUT I didn't join the course.
